President Bola Tinubu has concluded his working vacation in France and is returning to Nigeria, with Lagos set to be his first stop before proceeding to Abuja.
A statement issued on Tuesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said Tinubu departed Paris and is expected to arrive at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos later in the day.
According to the Presidency, the President chose to travel to Lagos to participate in activities honouring the late Chief MKO Abiola, widely recognised for his role in Nigeria’s democratic journey and as the winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election.
Tinubu is expected to attend the premiere of a movie dedicated to Abiola on October 1 at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre in Iganmu, Lagos.
The Presidency also disclosed that the President would hold a series of meetings with political leaders and associates during his stay in the state.
“While in Lagos, President Tinubu will also hold strategic meetings with political leaders and associates over several days in preparation for the 2027 elections,” the statement read.
Tinubu left Abuja on August 30 for the working vacation, spending one week in London before travelling to Paris, France.
During the trip, he held a private dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron and met with several business leaders, including Vincent Bolloré of the Bolloré Group, which has interests in media, logistics and digital services.
The President also met the Chairman of First Holdings, Femi Otedola, in France on Monday.
Another major engagement during the trip was his participation in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ogun State Government and DP World for the development of a Gateway deep seaport in Ogun Waterside and a Blue Marine Economic Zone.
The Presidency said DP World intends to invest about $7bn in the proposed seaport and economic zone project.
Tinubu is expected to return to Abuja after concluding his engagements in Lagos.
