Tinubu Extends Customs CG Adeniyi’s Tenure by One Year

By Joy Yesufu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a one-year extension of the tenure of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.

The announcement, made on Thursday by Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, noted that Adeniyi’s tenure, initially set to expire on August 31, 2025, will now continue until August 2026.

According to the statement, the extension is aimed at allowing Adeniyi to consolidate key reforms and oversee the completion of critical initiatives under the current administration.

These include the ongoing modernisation of the Nigeria Customs Service, the implementation of the National Single Window Project, and Nigeria’s obligations under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocol.

“President Tinubu recognises Mr. Adeniyi’s steadfast leadership and commitment to service,” the statement read.

“The President is confident that this extension will further strengthen the Nigeria Customs Service in achieving its strategic mandate of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.”

Adeniyi was appointed substantive Comptroller-General in October 2023, after serving in an acting capacity following the retirement of Hameed Ali.
