President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Dr. Abdullahi Ramat as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

This was disclosed in a statement on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who noted that Ramat, 39, is an electrical engineer and seasoned administrator.

He holds a PhD in Strategic Management, among other academic and professional qualifications.

In addition to Ramat, President Tinubu also nominated two commissioners to the NERC: Abubakar Yusuf as Commissioner for Consumer Affairs, and Fouad Animashun as Commissioner for Finance and Management Services.

All appointments are subject to confirmation by the Senate.

To prevent a leadership vacuum in the vital regulatory agency, the President has directed Dr. Ramat to assume office in an acting capacity, pending his screening and confirmation by the Senate, in line with statutory provisions.

President Tinubu charged the appointees to deploy their expertise in delivering on the administration’s power sector reform agenda and to help strengthen NERC’s role in ensuring efficiency, transparency, and consumer protection in the electricity industry.
