President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Kingsley Udeh, the Enugu State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, as a minister.
The nomination, which was disclosed on Tuesday via an internal WhatsApp platform of the Enugu State Government, comes barely three weeks after Governor Peter Mbah defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The message announcing the nomination read in part:
“Governor Peter Mbah is connecting Ndi Enugu to the centre. It’s more development, more dividends of democracy. APC all the way. Ndi Enugu, this is why we all must support APC and Governor Mbah’s leadership.”
Although there has not been an official statement from the Presidency, the move is being interpreted in political circles as part of Tinubu’s broader effort to consolidate APC’s influence in the South-East region.
Udeh, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, has served as Enugu’s Attorney-General since 2023 and is regarded as one of Mbah’s closest allies in the state executive council.
Further details regarding his ministerial portfolio and the Senate’s confirmation process are expected to follow in the coming days.
