President Bola Tinubu has forwarded a new batch of non-career ambassadorial nominees to the Senate.
The list includes Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, former Chief of Naval Staff and immediate past Sole Administrator of Rivers State.
Also on the list are Ita Enang, a former senator; Chioma Ohakim, former First Lady of Imo State; and Abdulrahman Dambazau, former Minister of Interior and ex-Chief of Army Staff.
Their names were not included in the earlier list of ambassadorial nominees transmitted to the upper chamber.
The nominations were contained in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during Thursday’s plenary.
President Tinubu urged legislators to give the nominees expedited consideration to facilitate the filling of key diplomatic positions.
Following the announcement, Akpabio referred the names to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs with instructions to conclude screening and submit its report within one week.
The latest list comes after the president earlier nominated Reno Omokri, a former presidential aide; Femi Fani-Kayode, former Minister of Aviation; and Mahmood Yakubu, immediate past Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as non-career ambassadors.
