Tinubu Reinstates NTA DG, ED News, Reverses Fresh Appointments

By Joy Yesufu

President Bola Tinubu has reversed recent management changes at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), ordering the reinstatement of Director-General Salihu Abdullahi Dembos and Executive Director of News, Ayo Adewuyi.

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced the decision in a statement on Tuesday.

Dembos, appointed in October 2023, had briefly vacated office following fresh appointments at the broadcast station.

He has now been directed to return and complete his three-year tenure. Similarly, Adewuyi will continue as Executive Director of News until 2027.

The new directive nullifies earlier appointments of a new director-general, executive director of news, executive director of marketing, and managing director of NTA Enterprises.

Established in 1977, the NTA is Nigeria’s public broadcaster and one of Africa’s largest television networks, with nationwide coverage.

While central to government communication, it has faced growing criticism over efficiency, funding challenges, and competition from private media.

Dembos, a veteran broadcaster with decades of experience within the NTA, is expected to bring continuity to the agency’s leadership as it navigates reforms and competition in Nigeria’s media space.
