Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued three kidnap victims and recovered two vehicles during a security operation along the Dandume-Sheme Road in Katsina, strengthening ongoing efforts to tackle kidnapping and terrorism in the North West.
The rescue mission was carried out on Thursday after security agencies received an emergency alert from residents about the movement of suspected terrorists operating along the road corridor.
According to the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, troops worked with police personnel and moved swiftly to the location following the distress call.
He said security operatives engaged the attackers and gained the upper hand during the encounter, forcing the suspects to flee into nearby bushes.
“Acting on the distress call, troops in collaboration with personnel of the Nigeria Police swiftly mobilised to the scene and made contact with the terrorists, overwhelming them with superior firepower,” Danja said.
The military spokesman stated that the fleeing terrorists abandoned their captives as troops advanced during the operation.
“Exploitation of the general area led to the rescue of three kidnapped victims along with two vehicles used by the terrorists,” Danja said.
The rescued victims and the recovered vehicles were later handed over to the Divisional Police Officer in Dandume for further action.
Danja noted that troops have continued intensive patrols and security operations across the area to deny criminal elements freedom of movement and improve safety along the Dandume-Sheme route.
He said the latest success highlights the determination of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to protect communities, secure major routes and combat kidnapping and terrorist activities across the Joint Operations Area.
The military also commended residents for providing timely information that aided the rescue mission and contributed to the successful outcome of the operation.
“Operation FANSAN YAMMA appreciates the general public for its continuous support and urges them to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities within their localities to the nearest security outpost for prompt action,” he said.
