Troops of Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma, have reportedly killed a suspected terrorist during a counter-terrorism operation in Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Security and counter-insurgency analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed the development in a post on X on Wednesday, citing military sources.
According to Makama, the troops, operating in the Galadi area of Sokoto State, encountered suspected terrorists riding motorcycles as they attempted to cross a road in Shinkafi.
He said the troops engaged the group, killing one of the suspects, while others reportedly fled the scene.
Makama said the deceased was found wearing a woodland camouflage vest beneath a traditional kaftan.
He added that a preliminary examination of a mobile phone allegedly recovered from the suspect revealed photographs purportedly showing him dressed in military camouflage and carrying what appeared to be a PKM machine gun.
Four mobile phones and N30,350 in cash were reportedly recovered from the suspect.
The operation is part of ongoing military efforts to disrupt the activities of terrorists and bandits operating across the North-West.
The military authorities had yet to issue an independent statement on the reported operation as of press time.
