UNIZIK INVESTIGATES BITING OF LECTURER BY YEAR THREE FEMALE STUDENT

The Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has launched a probe into the shocking biting of a lecturer, Dr. Chukwudi Michael Okoye, by a student, Goddy Mbakwe Precious 

The Acting Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Joseph I. Ikechebelu, ordered an impartial investigation to unravel the facts of the altercation between the lecturer and the student.

The Acting Head of Information, Public Relations, and Protocol, Njelita Louis, who issued the university’s statement stressed the place of discipline and proper conduct in the institution.

The University’s Spokesman said that the institution would impose the necessary sanction on any party found culpable of improper conduct at the end of the investigation. 

He said that the Nnamdi Azikiwe University would always sustain giving the requisite attention to high morals and ethical standards.

“The Management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has been made aware of a disturbing incident involving Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, a lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts and Film Studies and Goddy Mbakwe Precious a 3rd year student in the department of History and International Studies.

“The incident, which has gained significant attention on social media, is being taken very seriously by the university authorities.

“In line with our core values of discipline, self-reliance, and excellence, and in adherence to the principles of fair hearing, equity, and justice, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph I. Ikechebelu, has ordered a full-scale, transparent, and unbiased investigation into the matter.

According to Njelita: “We urge all concerned parties and members of the public to remain calm as we diligently pursue the truth.

“The university is committed to upholding discipline and decorum, and we will ensure that appropriate actions and sanctions are taken based on the outcome of the investigation.

“There is no place for indiscipline, misconduct, or any form of unacceptable behaviour within our community.

“Further updates will be provided as necessary.”

In a video that has since gone viral, the student a third-year student in the Department of History and International Studies, Goddy Precious, was seen recording a short video on the TikTok app in a corridor.

The lecturer, Dr Okoye, who walked into the video tapped her lightly on the shoulder saying ‘excuse me’ which initially infuriated the student. 

The lecturer who overheard the students hurling insults at him returned to ask her to delete the video as he did not want to appear in the it.

The lecturer went for her phone but the student resisted him, tore his clothe, bit him while a heavy crowd gathered around then until the institution’s security men took away the student.
