Unruly Ibom Air Passenger Remanded in Kirikiri Over Crew Assault

By Joy Yesufu

A female passenger accused of assaulting airline staff aboard an Ibom Air flight has been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos following her arraignment.

The suspect, identified as Comfort Emmanson, was reportedly involved in a violent altercation on Sunday during a flight from Uyo International Airport, Akwa Ibom State, to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

According to reports, Emmanson allegedly attacked a female crew member, strangling her for several minutes for being asked to switch off her mobile phone.

She was said to have also assaulted ground staff and aviation security officers after the aircraft landed in Lagos.

In a statement on Monday, Ibom Air confirmed that the passenger had been handed over to the police and banned from flying with the airline for six months.

The Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Tunde Moshood, also confirmed the development, warning that unruly behaviour aboard aircraft would not be tolerated.

Police arraigned Emmanson in court, where she was ordered to be remanded pending further legal proceedings.
