The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the results of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates, revealing a significant decline in overall performance.
Announcing the release in Lagos on Monday, the Head of the National Office, Dr. Amos Dangut, said a total of 1.9 million candidates from over 23,000 secondary schools nationwide sat for the May/June examination.
“Today, I am pleased to inform you that all processes leading to the release of the results have been concluded,” he stated.
Despite the successful conduct of the examination, Dr. Dangut disclosed that candidates’ performance declined by 33.8% compared to previous years.
He did not give detailed subject-by-subject statistics but described the dip as concerning.
He further noted that candidates can now access their results through multiple electronic platforms provided by the Council.
