We Murdered OGTV Staff Over Poor Pay to Teach her a lesson  -Ex Security Guard

By Kamsi Anayo

The police in Ogun State had said that a former security guard has confessed to orchestrating the murder of his ex-employer, former Ogun State Television (OGTV) staff member Madam Olakitan Oyesiku.

The killers was said to have claimed that he wanted to “teach her a lesson” over what he described as poor pay.

The State Police Command said the 22-year-old suspect, Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, recruited two accomplices to carry out the attack that also claimed the life of another security guard, Pelumi Adetayo.

Speaking at the Command Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, on Thursday, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, identified the other suspects as 27-year-old Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola and 36-year-old Sobu Obafunsho.

All three are in police custody.

According to him, the case was reported on June 21 after police received information about suspicious circumstances at Madam Oyesiku’s residence.

Detectives who responded to the scene found Adetayo’s body inside the security post, while Madam Oyesiku was discovered dead in the living room in a pool of blood.

Investigators also discovered that the victim’s Lexus RX 330 SUV was missing, raising suspicions of robbery.

“The Command immediately launched an intensive investigation involving intelligence gathering and technical tracking,” Ojajuni said.

Police said operatives recovered the stolen vehicle within 24 hours at Onikolobo in Ogun State. Although the suspects had removed the ignition key and number plates, investigators recovered the vehicle’s registration plate hidden beneath a seat, confirming ownership.

A handwritten note allegedly left at the scene also proved crucial to the investigation. Police said forensic examination of the note generated leads that helped detectives identify the suspects.

Philip was arrested on June 24 at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, where he was working as a labourer. The subsequent arrest of Ayoola and Obafunsho followed during further operations.

During interrogation, Philip allegedly confessed to planning the attack.

According to police, he told investigators: “I wanted to teach her a lesson because of the poor remuneration I received while working for her.”

Investigators said the suspects attacked the residence on June 20, overpowering Adetayo before using him to gain access to the house. They allegedly killed Madam Oyesiku before later killing Adetayo and fleeing with the Lexus SUV.

Police also recovered several items believed to be connected to the crime, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a plank and a black pen.

While confirming that the suspects made confessional statements, Ojajuni stressed that they remain entitled to due process.

“The Ogun State Police Command remains committed to ensuring that justice is served and that all persons connected with this heinous crime are brought to book,” the police commissioner said.

He added that investigations are ongoing as detectives continue to build the case for prosecution.
