The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old woman for allegedly severing the manhood of her boyfriend after discovering that he intended to marry another woman.
The Command also confirmed the arrest of three persons in connection with the alleged mob assault that led to the death of a 30-year-old man in a separate incident.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna-Kiyawa, disclosed both incidents in a statement issued in Kano.
According to him, the first incident occurred at Durbar Hotel, Badawa, where the suspect, a native of Maigatari Local Government Area of Jigawa State, allegedly attacked her boyfriend with a sharp knife.
Haruna-Kiyawa said the hotel management alerted the police after the incident, prompting the Divisional Police Officer of Badawa Division to lead a team of detectives to the scene.
“On arrival, it was discovered that the suspect had allegedly severed the victim’s manhood with a sharp knife. The suspect was arrested and the knife recovered as an exhibit,” he said.
The victim was immediately taken to Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital for emergency medical treatment, where he is currently receiving care.
The police said investigations into the incident are ongoing.
In a separate development, the Command arrested three suspects, including a husband and wife, over the alleged killing of Abubakar Auwal, 30.
Haruna-Kiyawa said the incident was reported at the Sheka Police Division on July 24 after the victim was allegedly lured by two male suspects over allegations that he was involved in an affair with a married woman.
Police operatives who responded to the scene found the victim unconscious after he was allegedly beaten by the suspects and others.
He was rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, where doctors confirmed him dead.
The police spokesperson said three suspects were arrested at the scene, while the victim’s body has been deposited in the hospital mortuary for an autopsy.
He added that investigations are ongoing and that the suspects would be charged in court upon conclusion of the inquiry.
Reacting to the incidents, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu-Bakori, condemned both acts of violence and warned residents against taking the law into their own hands.
He stressed that the Nigeria Police Force remains the constitutionally recognised institution responsible for investigating crimes and prosecuting offenders through due process.
The Commissioner assured residents that the Command would carry out thorough and impartial investigations into both cases and ensure that anyone found culpable is prosecuted in accordance with the law.
