2027: OBI, KWANKWASO IN CLOSED DOOR MEETING WITH NDC IN ABUJA

The Labour Party Presidential Candidate in the 2023 Presidential election, Mr Peter Obi and a former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, on Sunday held a closed door meeting with the leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress.

The meeting held at the Abuja residence of the National Leader of the NDC, Senator Seriake Dickson, a former Governor of Bayelsa State who represents Bayelsa West in the Senate.

Authoritative sources say that the meeting  focuses on final plans to receive the defecting heavy weight politicians into the NDC ahead of the  2027 general elections.

The meeting comes shortly after the resignation of the Mr Obi from the African Democratic Congress which is battling leadership crisis.

On Sunday,  cited persistent internal crises and what he described as a deteriorating political environment in Nigeria.

In a statement posted on Sunday via X (formerly Twitter), Obi said his decision followed “deep personal reflection” and the burden of “silent pains” experienced within the country’s political space.

He warned that Nigeria’s political climate has become increasingly hostile, characterised by intimidation, insecurity, and distrust—conditions he said undermine genuine efforts at public service.

“We now live in an environment that has become increasingly toxic, where the system that should protect and create opportunities often works against the people,” he stated.

Obi also lamented what he described as a culture of insincerity within political circles, noting that some allies publicly show support but privately distance themselves or engage in criticism.
