Rochas Okorocha, former Governor of Imo State, has dragged Governor Hope Uzodimma, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) before the Federal High Court over the APC’s Imo West Senatorial District ticket for the 2027 elections.
In the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1854/2026, Okorocha, who previously represented Imo West in the Senate, is challenging INEC’s publication of Governor Uzodimma’s name as the APC candidate for the district.
Okorocha is asking the court to declare him the rightful candidate of the party for the Imo West senatorial election and to set aside INEC’s recognition of Uzodimma.
The suit follows the publication of the list of candidates by INEC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The former governor contends that the process that produced Uzodimma as the APC candidate did not comply with the relevant electoral laws and party guidelines.
He is seeking judicial determination of who is legally entitled to fly the APC flag for the Imo West senatorial seat. The suit lists INEC, Governor Uzodimma and the APC as respondents.
The legal battle is expected to deepen the political rift within the APC in Imo State, where both Okorocha and Uzodimma remain dominant figures.
The court is expected to hear arguments from all parties and determine the issues raised.
The development comes as political parties and candidates intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections.
