Abuja–Kaduna Train Derails, Passengers Evacuated Amid Panic

A passenger train on the Abuja–Kaduna corridor derailed on Tuesday morning, leaving several carriages overturned and forcing terrified passengers to flee for safety.

The incident, which occurred shortly after the train departed Abuja around 11 a.m., sparked chaos as commuters scrambled to escape the wreckage. The immediate cause of the derailment has not yet been established.

Although reports confirmed the derailment, details regarding injuries or fatalities remain unclear at press time. 

Military personnel were swiftly deployed to the scene to assist with rescue operations and evacuate stranded passengers.

The Managing Director of the Nigerua Railway Corporation,  Kayode Opeifa, confirmed in a short statement that the derailment occurred between Abuj Statiin and Asham Station,

He said, “NRC confirms a train derailment involving its Kaduna bound AKTS train service at about 11.09 at KM 49 between Kubwa station and Asham station.

“Emergency rescue, medical personnel, and nearby hospitals have already been mobilised.

“Full compliment of security already on ground as effort is ongoing to move all passengers on train back to Abuja safely.”
