The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Waheed Ayilara is dead.
It was learnt that Ayilara, died in Lagos in the early hours of Thursday, Aug. 29.
He died at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja, where he was receiving treatment for prostate cancer.
Ayilara was said to have died as a result of complications arising from the surgery he went through on Wednesday, Aug. 28 .
His last official outing was the pull out ceremony of AIG Yetunde Longe in Lagos on Aug. 26.
He was said to be hale and hearty throughout out the event.
“In actual fact, he walked into the hospital on Wednesday for the surgery, but unfortunately we lost him,” a colleague said.
”We are very sad to inform you that our friend, brother and family, the Commissioner of Police for Akwa Ibom State, Waheed Ayilara is dead,” a family member Said.
He will be buried today, Thursday, Aug. 29 in accordance with Islamic rites.
A devoted Muslim, Ayilara acted as the Commissioner of Police for Lagos State before he was posted to Akwa Ibom in substantive capacity.
