APC Picks Kingsley Chinda as Rivers Governorship Candidate for 2027

By Joy Yesufu

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared Kingsley Ogundu Chinda as its governorship candidate for Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Chairman of the party’s Governorship Primary Election Committee and Returning Officer, Bitrus Kwamoti, announced the result on Thursday at the APC Secretariat in Port Harcourt after collating votes from the 23 local government areas of the state.

Kwamoti said Chinda, who emerged as the party’s sole aspirant, secured a total of 268,497 votes in the primary election conducted across the state.

“Ogundu Kingsley, having satisfied the requirements of the APC constitution and guidelines and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner of the primary election and returned elected as the party’s governorship candidate for Rivers State,” Kwamoti stated.

The APC governorship primary drew significant political attention amid the lingering crisis in Rivers State and the growing influence of allies of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, within the party structure.

There had also been speculation surrounding the political future of Governor Siminalayi Fubara following his withdrawal from the APC governorship race ahead of the primary.

Political observers believe the emergence of Chinda signals a new phase in the political realignment ahead of the 2027 elections in Rivers State, which has remained a key battleground in the country’s political landscape.
