Bandits Release Last Batch of Six Abductees from Kogi Community After Weeks of Negotiation

By Joy Yesufu

Terrorists have released the last batch of six persons abducted from Aiyetoro-Kiri community in Bunu land, Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, bringing an end to weeks of captivity.

The development was confirmed on Wednesday by the Aiyetoro-Kiri Bunu Development Association (AKBDA), which said the release followed prolonged negotiations and the payment of ransom.

The association described the abduction as a traumatic experience for the victims, their families, and the entire community.

The victims were kidnapped on December 14, 2025, when suspected bandits attacked a branch of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in Aiyetoro-Kiri.

During the attack, one person was killed, while several worshippers were taken away by the assailants.

AKBDA disclosed that the abductees were released in phases. Seven victims were freed on January 1, 2026, followed by the release of three others on January 12.

Fourteen additional victims regained their freedom a day later, while the final six were released recently, completing the process.

The association expressed gratitude to God for the safe return of all the abductees and commended the families, community members, and well-wishers for their support, patience, and resilience throughout the ordeal.
