FCT Police Arraign 11 Suspects Over Murder of ARISE News Journalist, Security Guard

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arraigned eleven suspects in connection with the murder of ARISE News journalist, Ms. Somtochukwu Christella Maduagwu, and a security guard, Mr. Barnabas Danlami, who were killed during a robbery attack in Abuja.

A statement sign by Police Public Relations Officer, FCT Command, SP Josephine Adeh said the suspects were arraigned on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, before a court in the FCT over the September 29, 2025 attack at Unique Apartments, Katampe Extension, Mabushi.

Those docked include Shamsu Hassan, Sani Sirajo, Hassan Isah, Abubakar Alkamu, Abdulsalam Saleh, Suleiman Badamasi, Zaharadeen Mohammed, Musa Umar (alias “Small”), Mashkur Jamil, Suleiman Sani, and Abubakar Usman.

According to the police, the defendants are facing a nine-count charge bordering on criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, and murder. The court adjourned the matter until February 2026 for further hearing.

The FCT Police Command urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements, persons, or objects to security agencies.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring justice for the victims and strengthening security across the Federal Capital Territory.
