The Bauchi State House of Assembly has been thrown into mourning following the death of the member representing Sakwa Constituency, Mohammad Wanzam, who passed away on Sunday after a brief illness.
Wanzam, who chaired the House Committee on Budget and Appropriation, was widely regarded as a key figure in the Assembly and played a prominent role in legislative oversight and budget-related matters in the state.
His death was announced by the Speaker of the Assembly, Abubakar Sulaiman, in a statement issued through his spokesperson, Mukhtar Garba Kobi.
The Speaker expressed grief over the loss, describing the late lawmaker as a dedicated public servant who served his constituency and Bauchi State with commitment and distinction.
The statement read, “Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. With a heavy heart and total submission to the will of Almighty Allah, I announce the passing of a member of the Bauchi State House of Assembly representing Sakwa Constituency, Hon. Mohammad Wanzam.”
Governor Bala Mohammed also paid tribute to the deceased, describing him as a humble leader whose service was marked by diligence, patriotism and a strong commitment to the welfare of his constituents.
In a condolence message signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, the governor said Wanzam made significant contributions to policy formulation and legislative oversight, particularly in his capacity as Chairman of the House Committee on Budget and Appropriation.
“His death is a great loss not only to his family and constituents but also to the entire Bauchi State. We have lost a dependable legislator, a bridge-builder, and a man whose humility and dedication earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and citizens alike,” the governor said.
Mohammed urged residents to take solace in the legacy of service and selflessness left behind by the late lawmaker, while praying for Allah’s mercy and forgiveness upon him.
Funeral prayers for Wanzam were held on Sunday at the Gwallaga Juma’at Mosque in Bauchi, attended by family members, political associates and sympathisers.
