The Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Makurdi, on Wednesday, said it will hold a two-day international medical exhibition and health Investments Summit in Makurdi, the State capital.
The summit which is slated to hold from July 18-19, 2024 at the premises of the hospital is geared towards the overall goal of opening the state economy to local and foreign investments and make the hospital to attain a “one stop one.
Briefing journalists as part of activities marking the event, the Chief Medical Director, Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) Makurdi, Dr. Stephen Hwande said the event will pave the way for greater investment opportunities in the State.
He said during the summit that a cancer treatment centre will be unveiled to encourage people to go for early detection of cancer and promote regular examinations.
The CMD noted that cancer is difficult to treat only when detected late, stressing that the proposed centre will make cancer patients to be detected early and ensure that they get cured on time.
“Women that have multiple sex partners and give birth to up to four children, do experience Vagina discharge issues and it sometimes leads to cervical cancer.
“The management of this hospital wants to change the narrative of cancer management in Benue.
According to him, BSUTH would soon establish a Very Important Persons (VIP) Clinic and all the testing gadgets would be there to provide quality treatment happening and cater to prominent people in need of privacy.
“The hospital would also recognise some of her benefactors, particularly the former governor of the state Sen. Gabriel Suswam for the provision of solar panels and other state-of-the-art equipment and ensuring the commissioning of hospital by former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2012.
“We will also recognise some ambassadors of the hospital including the Chairman of Unicure Pharmaceutical Company Limited, Mr Eric Hanqin Liu; Dr Paul Orhii, former Director General of NAFDAC and the Consultant Radiation and Clinical Oncologist, Dr Samuel Otene, among others who have aided the hospital in one way or the other to grow and to be where it is today.
“The occasion will be declared open by the speaker of Benue State House of Assembly Makurdi on Thursday and on Friday endowment fund raising of N5bn will be launched for indigenous patients.
“We are having an exhibition from Thursday, that is a medical scientific exhibition on research and training. During this exhibition, people will come to display medical equipment” Dr Hwande stated.
