Day 2 Of Protests: Police Detain 320 Suspects For Alleged Vandalism In Kano

By Tom Zaneni, Abuja

The Police Command in Kano State has announced the detention of 320 suspects who were arrested in connection with vandalism of public buildings during the nationwide protests in the state, which commenced on Friday.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, announced this while parading the suspects at the state police headquarters in Kano on Friday.

He stated that the suspects were apprehended at the premises of High Courts and other public buildings, with various items found in their possession.

Kiyawa said the police in collaboration with other security agencies had established a comprehensive security network to ensure that the residents could go about their legitimate activities without any molestation.

The command appealed to the residents to support its efforts by providing intelligence information that could help in arresting criminals in the state, thereby contributing to a safer and more secure environment.

In another development, the Commissioner of Police in Yobe State, Salma Dogo, has commended the state government’s decision to impose a 24-hour curfew in the state.

Dogo also urged parents to ensure that all the stolen properties from vandalised buildings were returned to the nearest police station.

He warned that the police would not condone any acts of vandalism or disruptions to the peace in Yobe.

He stressed that any resident found engaging in such criminal behaviour would be dealt with.

The police commissioner said the police were committed to maintaining law and order in the state.
