Family Friends Associates in Grief as Navy Commodore Wabi is Buried

The untimely death of a top and friendly officer in the Information Directorate of Nigerian Navy has thrown his family members, friends, and associates into grief.

Commodore Wabi, who was the General Manager of Armed Forces Radio, Abuja, died on January 24, 2025.

Investigation conducted by the Network revealed that the senior officer slumped and died.

A source said that the unfortunate death could be related to high blood pressure or cardiac issue.

Military sources told the Network that he has since been buried according to Islamic rites.

Commodore Wabi would be remembered as thoroughbred professional and a beautiful public relations practitioner who was a delight to Defence correspondents on the beat.

His death came a shock to many of the journalists who came across him on the beat.

The late officer rose to the rank a of Commodore in 2020.

Born in Yewa, Borno State, Wabi enlisted in the Nigerian Navy on August 23, 1983 and was commissioned Sub-Lieutenant in 1994.

Wabi had a Masters Degree in Strategic Studies from the Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna.

He was a member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), among several professional bodies.

He occupied several positions in the Navy some of which are Staff Officer, Naval Headquarters (NHQ); Command Information Officer (CIO) Eastern Naval Command (ENC); Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Command and Staff College (CSC) jaji; PRO National Defence College (NDC); Assistant Director Defence Information (ADDI – Navy), Defence Headquarters (DHQ); and Deputy Director Defence Media Operations DHQ.
