Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, the leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has died at the age of 100.
Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, announced the development in a statement he personally signed on Tuesday.
The governor described Fasoranti as a revered elder statesman whose life was defined by integrity, selfless service and commitment to the development of Ondo State, Yorubaland and Nigeria.
“With a heavy heart but with total submission to the will of God, I announce the passing of our revered elder statesman, Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, who departed this world at the glorious age of 100,” the statement read.
Aiyedatiwa said the late Afenifere leader’s counsel, fatherly guidance and principled positions on justice and good governance would be greatly missed.
He added that Fasoranti had left an enduring legacy that would continue to inspire generations.
“On behalf of the Government and the good people of Ondo State, I commiserate with the Fasoranti family, the people of Akure Kingdom and the entire state over this great loss,” the governor said.
He prayed for the repose of the elder statesman’s soul.
Further details, including the circumstances of his death and funeral arrangements, were not provided in the statement.
