The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested three suspects allegedly featured in a viral video showing armed men dressed in military camouflage and openly brandishing AK-47 rifles, ammunition and communication devices.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Sanusi, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the outcome of investigations launched after the video surfaced on social media.
According to the police commissioner, the command immediately initiated a detailed forensic analysis of the video and photographs and directed operatives to identify and apprehend those involved.
Sanusi said digital forensic investigations and actionable intelligence subsequently led operatives of the FCT Police VCRU Sector 5 and personnel from the Zuba Division, under the leadership of the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Ogu Caleb Ikechukwu, to a hideout in Runji Village, Zuba.
He said the operation, conducted on May 25 at about 3:22 a.m., resulted in the arrest of three suspects allegedly seen in the viral footage.
The suspects were identified as Umar Babangida, 25; Adamu Yeti, 22; and Yahaya Idris, 24, all said to be residents of Rijana in Kaduna State.
According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had previously been in possession of AK-47 rifles allegedly supplied by a suspected gang leader identified only as “Esco,” who is currently at large.
Sanusi further disclosed that investigators recovered additional photographs and video clips from the suspects’ mobile phones allegedly showing them dressed in military camouflage while carrying AK-47 rifles and walkie-talkies.
The commissioner said the suspects remain in police custody and are assisting investigators with ongoing inquiries.
He added that efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing gang leader and other suspected members of the group, as well as recover the firearms allegedly linked to the suspects.
The police command reiterated its commitment to tackling violent crime and urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information that could assist security agencies in preventing criminal activities within and around the Federal Capital Territory.
