The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has dismissed reports claiming it confirmed allegations that some youths in the Nyanya area of Abuja sold their kidneys for money.
The command said it had neither received nor verified any report relating to the alleged sale of human organs in the area.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said the clarification became necessary following the circulation of viral reports linking the command to the claims.
According to the reports, some young residents of Nyanya allegedly sold their kidneys, while an agent operating in neighbouring Mararaba, Nasarawa State, was said to be purchasing the organs.
Reacting to the claims, Adeh said the police had not issued any statement confirming such allegations.
“The FCT Police Command wishes to categorically state that it has neither received nor confirmed any report of such nature.
“No statement or communication to that effect has emanated from the command,” she said.
The police spokesperson urged residents to disregard the reports and avoid sharing unverified information capable of creating fear, panic and unnecessary anxiety within the Federal Capital Territory.
She also called on members of the public with credible information on the alleged organ trafficking claims or any other security-related matter to report such information to the nearest police station for investigation.
