Security agencies in the Federal Capital Territory have launched a renewed joint operation aimed at strengthening surveillance, improving emergency response, and intensifying efforts against criminal activities across Abuja and surrounding communities.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the FCT Command, SP Josephine Adeh, on May 15, 2026.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, formally re-activated the security initiative, codenamed “Operation Sweep FCT,” with the backing of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike.
The operation was officially flagged off on Friday at the Eagle Square, Abuja.
Police authorities said the renewed security arrangement was designed to deter criminal activities, strengthen visibility policing, and ensure faster coordinated responses to security threats within the nation’s capital.
The operation brings together personnel drawn from multiple security and emergency agencies, including the FCT Police Command, the Military, Department of State Services, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps, Federal Fire Service, and other relevant agencies.
According to the statement, the operation has been divided into different sectors to improve operational coordination, enhance rapid response capability, and maintain a stronger security presence across the territory.
The police further stated that personnel involved in the operation had been charged to remain proactive and uphold high standards of professionalism while carrying out their responsibilities.
Reaffirming its commitment to protecting lives and property, the Command urged residents of the FCT to remain vigilant, obey the law, and promptly report suspicious activities through the designated emergency lines.
The police also expressed confidence that the renewed collaboration among security agencies would strengthen public safety and improve overall security coordination within the Federal Capital Territory.
