Suspected gunmen on Friday abducted a school principal and an unspecified number of students of a secondary school in Ahoro Esinele, Oriire Local Government Area (LGA) of Oyo state.
It was gathered that the gunmen stormed Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele between 8am – 9am during which a teacher in the school was also shot.
The source said, “An unspecified number of students. We don’t know their number were abducted.
“The school principal, Mrs Rachel Alamu, was also abducted. They also shot a teacher in the school. I don’t know the sex of the teacher.
“The police station is far from that place. The nearest police station should be Ikoyi Division”.
Olayinka Ayanlade, Public Relations Officer of the State Police command, when contacted, confirmed that there was an attack in the community.
Ayanlade, however, did not confirm whether anyone was kidnapped or not.
He said that the Commissioner of Police and his team were on their way to the area.
“There was an attack in that area. The Commissioner of Police is on his way to the area.”
A statement signed by
Executive Chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board_ (OYOSUBEB), Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, has also confirmed the incident.
“OYOSUBEB, expresses profound sorrow and deep concern over the unfortunate attack on LA School, Ahoro-Esinele, and Community Grammar School, Ahoro-Esinele, Oriire LGUBEA, which resulted in the killing of a teacher and the kidnapping of some pupils.
“This is a dark and painful moment for our education family in Oyo State, and our hearts are with the affected parents, teachers, and the entire community.
“As we speak, the accurate number of pupils kidnapped is yet to be ascertained, as security agencies continue to comb the affected areas and establish full details of the incident,” he said.
“OYOSUBEB, in collaboration with the Commissioner for Education, wish to reassure the public that security operatives, under the direct coordination of the Commissioner of Police, are fully on top of the situation,” he said.
