The Federal Government has accepted 16 years as the approved age for admission into tertiary institutions for the 2024/2025 academic session in Nigeria.

The Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, made the disclosure at stakeholders at the 2024 policy meeting organised by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Thursday.
Mamman had earlier announced a restriction of the admission age of undergraduates to 18 but called it off due to heavy pressure and protest from stakeholders at the meeting.
He had earlier said that only candidates of 18 years old and above would be admitted to tertiary institutions from this year.
Stakeholders had put forward the argument that students below the age of 18 sat for the last Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and were waiting to gain admission into tertiary institutions.
The crucial meeting was attended by the Registrar of JAMB Registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, vice chancellers, registrars and other stakeholders.
