The Federal Government has filed criminal charges against Sen. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan following her public claims of an assassination plot against her.
The charges, filed at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja, relate to statements the Senator made during a live interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on April 3, 2025.
In the interview, Akpoti-Uduaghan accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State Gov. Yahaya Bello of conspiring to have her killed.
The government is charging her under Section 391 of the Penal Code Law for making imputations that could harm the reputation of others.
The charge sheet names the Federal Republic of Nigeria as the complainant and Akpoti-Uduaghan as the sole defendant.
During the April interview, the Senator defended her allegations, saying she stood by her claims and highlighted that her security was withdrawn while she was suspended, leaving her vulnerable.
She described her political career as dangerous and emphasized that the removal of her protection put her at risk.
