FG Slashes Train Fares by 50% for Eid-el-Kabir Travellers

The Federal Government has approved a 50 per cent reduction in fares for all passenger train services operated by the Nigerian Railway Corporation as part of measures to ease transportation costs during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

The fare discount, announced by the Federal Ministry of Transportation, will take effect from Tuesday, May 26, 2026, and remain valid until Monday, June 1, 2026.

The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Engr. Funsho Adebiyi, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday, noting that the intervention was aimed at supporting Nigerians travelling during the festive period.

According to him, ticket prices on all NRC passenger train routes across the country have been reduced by half of the current approved fares for the duration of the offer.

He added that passengers who purchased tickets before the announcement at the old rates would receive a 50 per cent rebate, which could be used for subsequent train trips on or before June 1, 2026.

The ministry clarified that train schedules and timetables would remain unchanged throughout the period.

“The Federal Government remains committed to making transportation more affordable and accessible for Nigerians, especially during festive periods marked by increased travel demand,” the statement noted.

The ministry also expressed appreciation to Nigerians for their continued support and wished Muslim faithful a peaceful and joyful Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
