Oyo Security Operatives Kill Three Suspected Kidnappers, Rescue Abducted Man In Oke-Ogun Operation

By Fidelia Soriwei, Abuja

Security operatives in Oyo State have killed three suspected kidnappers and rescued an abducted victim during a joint operation in the Otu area of the Oke-Ogun axis of the state.

The operation, carried out by police operatives alongside local hunters and other security agencies, followed a distress call from hunters who reportedly came under attack while on a hunting expedition in the area.

Confirming the development on Tuesday, the Oyo State Police Command said the security team was mobilised to Otu after armed suspects opened fire on local hunters on May 25, 2026.

According to the command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the suspected kidnappers engaged the joint security team in a gun duel upon arrival at the scene.

“Through superior tactical response and coordinated effort, the criminals were successfully overpowered, leading to the neutralisation of three suspected kidnappers,” the statement said.

The police disclosed that the operation also led to the rescue of a kidnapped victim identified as Mosudi Gbolagade, aged about 50, who was allegedly abducted in Okaka and held captive within the Otu area.

The victim reportedly sustained gunshot injuries during the incident and was later evacuated for medical treatment.

Security operatives also recovered one AK-47 rifle without ammunition, a single-barrel gun and a machete from the scene.

The command further confirmed that one of the local hunters involved in the operation sustained gunshot injuries during the exchange of fire and is currently receiving treatment.

Commending the operation, the Commissioner of Police praised the efforts of the local hunters and other security stakeholders who participated in the rescue mission.

“The Command therefore reiterates its unwavering commitment to sustaining aggressive operations against criminal elements across the state and urges residents to remain vigilant by providing credible and timely information to security agencies,” the statement added.

The latest security operation comes amid growing tension in parts of Oyo State following recent attacks on schools in Oriire Local Government Area.

Suspected terrorists had earlier attacked schools in Esiele, Yamota and Alawusa communities, abducting dozens of pupils, students and teachers while also killing an assistant headmaster identified as Mr Adesiyan Adegboye.

The attackers later released videos showing some abducted teachers pleading for rescue, while another abducted teacher, Mr Michael Oyedokun, was reportedly killed by the assailants.
