Former Captain of the Green Eagles, Christian Chukwu is dead.

The veteran footballer fondly called ‘Chairman’ by football lovers died in Enugu at the age of 74.
Chukwu is survived by his wife, Lilian and four children and numerous relatives.
His death was disclosed by ex Rangers int’l secretary and coordinator of Ex-Rangers Int’l Players Association, JoeMartins Uzodike, on Saturday.
He said that Chukwu who was the Captain of the then Green Eagles Team which won the African cup of Nations in 1980 died at the Eastern Niger Medical Centre where his remains had been deposited at the morgue.
Chukwu, who was born Jan. 4, 1951, was captain of the national team, the Green Eagles between 1974 and 1980.
Chukwu was the first Nigerian captain to win the African Nations Cup when the Eagles defeated Algeria 3-0 in the final of the 1980 tournament.
He was also in the Nigeria squad that finished runners’ up in 1976 and 1978.
