Following the ‘Operation Karara’ that was launched on September 2 by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), no few than 823 drivers have been arrested for various offences.
The Corps also confiscated 623 licences and impounded 189 vehicles, for vehicle papers, traffic lights, zebra crossing, and other violations, within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Spokesman of FRSC Mr Olusegun Ogungbemide, disclosed this in a statement in Abuja on Friday.
According to him, the operation which was to reduce road traffic light violations within the FCT was expected to realise the mandate through speedy arrest and prosecution of offenders.
“The drivers are being charged with various offences such as traffic light violations, dangerous driving, road marking violations, and reckless driving.
“In order to consolidate on the gains recorded in the cause of the patrol operations and further entrench sanity in the use of traffic lights in the FCT, the Corps Marshal appeals to motorists to cooperate with its personnel and obey all traffic rules and regulations,” he said
