A former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Basil Ganagana, has won the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary for the Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ganagana defeated the incumbent, Hon. Nicholas Mutu, who has represented the constituency since 1999.
The former Speaker polled 1,400 votes, while Mutu scored 1,093 votes in the keenly contested exercise.
The victory, recorded at the Bomadi Town Hall on Saturday, effectively ended Mutu’s 27-year hold on the seat.
The results were announced by the Delta State Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Fidelis Okenmor Tilije, who served as the returning officer.
Other aspirants in the race included Priye Okaba, who came third with 609 votes, and Dr. Chris Ekiyor, a former President of the Ijaw Youth Council, who placed fourth with 237 votes.
The primary was witnessed by constituency stakeholders, including local government returning officers from Bomadi and Patani, INEC representatives, party officials, and agents of the aspirants.
Mutu, Nigeria’s longest serving lawmaker has been representing the Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives since 1999.
