The Governor of Oyo State,

Seyi Makinde, has approved the appointment of Prince Abimbola Owoade as the new Alaafin of Oyo.
He is a 47 year old philanthropist and businessman with interest in real estate and financial services in Manitoba, Canada.
The State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade made the announcement in a statement on Friday.
Oyelade said the new Alafin was recommended by the kingmakers (the Oyomesi) after due consultations and divinations and approved by the state government.
“Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade, after thorough consultations and divinations, has been recommended by the Oyomesi and approved by Governor Seyi Makinde as the new Alaafin of Oyo,” the statement read.
Also, the state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ademola Ojo, said the announcement brings to an end all the dispute that followed the death of former Alaafin, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III.
Ojo urged all indigenes of the historical kingdom to support the new Alaafin and the government in his enthronement.
The former king died on April 22, 2022.
“This decision has put to rest all the socio-legal controversies that have arisen since the transition of the late Oba Adeyemi.
“We urge the people of Oyo State to support the new Alaafin and join the government in celebrating this historic moment.
“We pray that his reign brings progress and harmony to the people of Oyo and strengthens the historic legacy of the Alaafin institution,” he said.
