INSECURITY: TINUBU MAY APPOINT FORMER DEFENCE CHIEF, GEN CHRISTOPHER MUSA AS NEW DEFENCE MINISTER

Strong indications emerged on Monday that President Tinubu might appoint former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Christopher Musa as Nigeria’s Minister of Defence.

Amidst concerns in some quarters over the escalating insecurity by terrorists and Fulani bandits, the Minister of Defence, Abubakar resigned on Monday night citing health grounds.

There are serious speculations that the President may have asked him to resign as part of the deliberate efforts to strength security with professionals especially in the critical defence sector.

Prior to the resignation of the Minister, the President summoned the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Musa (retd) to the Presidential Villa for a closer door meeting.

Gen Musa who arrived the State House around 7 pm on Monday was led into the President’s office area by a senior security official.

Musa is believed in security circles to be a tough general who holds the view that the insurgents can be defeated and should be defeated.

He is believed to be of the view that the military should adopt a strong kinetic approach to the banditry challenge on the country.

His viewpoint aligns with Nigeria’s international collaborators like the US who are sworn to carry out a holistic campaign against the insurgency and banditry blamed for the mass killings witnessed in the North central part of the country.

Badaru’s resignation follows public outrage over the recent abduction of 24 school girls in Kebbi, 303 school girls in  Catholic school, Papiri, Niger State, the murder and abduction of worshippers on Eruku, Kwarra State among others.
