Former World Heavy Weight Champion Boxing Champion Anthony Joshua was, escaped death by the whiskers on Monday m in a road accident which resulted in two deaths in the vehicles conveying in Makun, Ogun State.
It was gathered that the ugly development took place along the busy Lagos-Ibadan expressway, resulting in the death of two people riding with him in the vehicle.
It was further learnt that the vehicle conveying Joshua collided with another car under circumstances that are still being investigated.
A source said, the two people died on the spot, in the collision which involved a two-vehicle convoy: a Lexus SUV and a Pajero SUV.
An eyewitness who was also part of the rescue mission, said Joshua sustained minor injuries, while two others died on the spot.
The eye witness identified as Adeniyi Orojo gave the account that the accident happened just before Danco Filling Station in Makun, before the Sagamu Interchange of the Ibadan axis of the road.
He explained that Anthony Joshua was seated behind the driver, with another person beside him while there was also a passenger sitting beside the driver, making four occupants in the Lexus that crashed.
“His security detail was in the vehicle behind them before the crash.
“Other eyewitnesses and I began the rescue and flagged down oncoming vehicles to assist.
“A few minutes after the crash, officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps arrived. The passenger beside the driver and the person beside Joshua died on the spot,” he said.
Fans have gone to occupy the social media space with messages of concern, while local authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
Efforts to get across to TRACE Commandant, Akinbiyi Babatunde on further updates about the crash were unsuccessful as he could not be reached on phone.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said in a phone that he would get back to journalists shortly.
“I’ve seen the videos too, but I will get back to you on it,” he said.
