The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Saturday released former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, after several hours of interrogation, with a fresh appointment scheduled for further questioning.
Malami confirmed the development in a post on his X handle, describing the engagement with investigators as “successful.”
“In line with my undertaking to keep Nigerians updated on my invitation by EFCC, I give glory to Allah for His divine intervention. The engagement was successful and I am eventually released, while on an appointment for further engagement, as the truth relating to the fabricated allegations against me continues to unfold,” he wrote.
The EFCC had invited the former minister over allegations linked to his tenure in office. Although the commission has not publicly disclosed the specifics of the probe, the invitation is believed to relate to decisions taken during his time as the nation’s chief law officer.
Malami had earlier said he would willingly honour the invitation, describing it as part of his commitment to transparency and accountability.
