The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) says it has carried out precision airstrikes on suspected terrorist positions in the Yuwe axis of the Sambisa Forest, killing several insurgents and destroying key infrastructure.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja, the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said the operation was conducted by the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI following credible intelligence.
According to him, the strikes targeted fortified structures and bunkers identified through Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance missions.
“NAF air assets engaged the targets with precision munitions, destroying the structures, neutralising multiple terrorists, and eliminating key logistics facilities,” Ejodame said.
He added that subsequent battle damage assessment confirmed the effectiveness of the operation.
The Air Force spokesperson noted that the latest strike forms part of sustained military efforts to intensify pressure on insurgent groups operating in the North-East.
“The sustained tempo of air operations continues to degrade terrorist networks, leaving them increasingly exposed and disrupted, with mounting pressure forcing them into desperate and reactive actions,” he said.
Ejodame also quoted the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, as reaffirming the military’s commitment to ongoing operations against terrorist elements.
“We remain committed to the protection of our personnel, the security of our nation, and the safety of all citizens,” Aneke said.
“The NAF will continue to intensify precision engagements across the theatre, maintaining decisive operational pressure while adhering strictly to rules of engagement and minimising civilian harm.”
Operation HADIN KAI is the Nigerian military’s ongoing counter-insurgency campaign in the North-East, targeting extremist groups operating in the region.
