NPC Chairman Aminu Wushishi Dies After Brief Illness

The Chairman of the National Population Commission, Dr Aminu Wushishi, has died after a brief illness.

Wushishi reportedly passed away on Friday, August 28, 2026, according to sources close to the family and the commission.

The news of his death spread in Minna, the Niger State capital, around the time of the Juma’at prayer, drawing reactions from associates, political figures and members of the public.

Before his appointment as chairman of the National Population Commission, Wushishi served as Secretary of the Niger State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party.

His Special Adviser on Media, Stanley Nwosu, confirmed the development on Friday.

“Yes, it is true. The NPC chairman died after a brief illness,” Nwosu said.

As of the time of filing this report, details regarding the circumstances surrounding his death and funeral arrangements had not been made public.

Wushishi’s death marks a significant loss for the National Population Commission, where he played a key role in population and demographic policy matters in Nigeria.
