Two residents have been rescued after part of a one-storey residential building collapsed in the Kubwa area of the Federal Capital Territory on Friday.
The Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department said the victims were trapped on the ground floor of the building, located at Kubwa 2/2 by Yellow Page.
According to the department’s Head of Media and Public Relations, Nkechi Isa, the structure, which consists of six blocks of flats, partially collapsed at about 11:30 a.m.
She said emergency responders arrived after receiving a distress call at 11:38 a.m. and successfully pulled both victims from the rubble of the collapsed right section.
The rescued residents were taken to Kubwa General Hospital, where they were confirmed to be in stable condition.
Isa said other occupants were away when the incident occurred, preventing additional casualties, although household belongings and other property were destroyed.
Officials from the Department of Development Control and the FCT Police Command also joined the emergency team at the scene to secure the area and investigate the cause of the collapse.
