Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has paid tribute to former governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, promising that his contributions to the state’s development would remain part of its history.

Oborevwori made the remarks during a condolence visit to Uduaghan’s family following the former governor’s death on Monday at the age of 71.

Accompanied by his wife, Tobore, and senior government officials, the governor visited the deceased’s widow, Roli Uduaghan, and other relatives to express his sympathy.

Recalling their political relationship, Oborevwori described Uduaghan as a former boss who played a significant role in his career, including his appointment as a Special Adviser in 2007.

“He was my boss. He gave me the highest political appointment, Special Adviser, in 2007. That is something that really touches my heart. You are all aware that he supported me throughout this journey,” the governor said.

He described Uduaghan as a calm, articulate and thoughtful leader whose policies and development initiatives positively affected many residents of Delta State.

Oborevwori also highlighted the establishment of Asaba International Airport as one of the late governor’s enduring achievements, praising his commitment to projects intended to benefit the state beyond ethnic considerations.

The governor said the large number of mourners and visitors paying their respects to the family demonstrated the former governor’s influence and the lasting relationships he built during his time in office.

He added that his administration would continue to preserve and improve valuable infrastructure inherited from previous governments, citing the ongoing modification of the Effurun Roundabout Flyover as an example of building on existing development projects.

“He has gone, but he can never be forgotten by Deltans,” Oborevwori said.

Earlier, the governor signed the condolence register, expressing sorrow over Uduaghan’s death and extending his sympathies to the deceased’s wife, children, relatives and the people of Delta State.

In his written tribute, Oborevwori stated, “I am saddened by the demise of the former Governor, Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan. He was a great boss. I commiserate with his beloved wife, children, family members and Deltans over this great loss.

“May God grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss. Your impact in Delta can never be forgotten. Asamaigor, RIP,” the governor wrote.

Oborevwori had earlier joined family members and other dignitaries, including Uduaghan’s daughter, Orode, and former Nigeria Football Federation president Amaju Pinnick, to receive the former governor’s remains at Osubi Airport.

Uduaghan governed Delta State from 2007 to 2015, a period during which his administration pursued several infrastructure and development projects across the state.
