The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, has summoned four police officers to the command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, following public outrage over a viral video showing operatives assaulting a young man.
The officers were identified after footage circulated on social media showing police personnel pinning the man to the ground before handcuffing him. The incident was said to have occurred in Ijagba, Sango-Ota, Ogun State.
The video sparked criticism from social media users, with a voice accompanying the footage alleging that the young man was arrested for wearing camouflage shorts and questioning the treatment he received from the officers.
The spokesperson for the command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the development in a statement on Sunday, saying the commissioner had ordered immediate action against the officers involved.
“The officers involved have been identified, and the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, psc, FCSS, MNIPR, has ordered immediate action in line with established procedures,” Babaseyi said.
He added that the four officers were already on their way to the command headquarters as the police began addressing the incident.
“The command remains committed to accountability, professional discipline and the highest standards of policing,” the spokesperson said.
Babaseyi said further information would be communicated as developments warranted, although the statement did not specify the disciplinary measures being considered or provide details of the young man’s condition.
The development comes amid public scrutiny of police conduct and calls for accountability when allegations of assault by law enforcement officers emerge. The command’s next steps are expected to clarify the outcome of the action ordered against the four officers.
