Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, and the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, have mourned the death of the state’s Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, praising his contributions to road safety and public service.
Ogunjobi died after a brief illness, according to the Public Relations Officer of the FRSC sector command, Afolabi Odunsi, who announced his death on Sunday.
In a condolence statement issued through his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, Abiodun extended his sympathies to the Corps Marshal, the FRSC national leadership, officers and men of the corps, as well as the deceased’s family, friends and professional associates.
The governor described Ogunjobi’s death as a significant loss to road safety administration, particularly given his contributions to public enlightenment, stakeholder engagement and efforts to improve road safety across Ogun State.
“The late Ogunjobi’s commitment to road safety administration, public enlightenment and stakeholder engagement reflects the importance of dedicated service to the protection of lives and property,” Abiodun said.
He added that the late commander played an important role in encouraging responsible road use, improving compliance with traffic regulations and promoting safer roads for motorists and other road users.
“Commander Ogunjobi’s death is a painful loss, particularly at a time when the collective efforts of road safety officials remain critical to reducing road traffic crashes and protecting the lives of citizens,” the governor said.
Abiodun prayed for the peaceful repose of Ogunjobi’s soul and urged his family, colleagues and associates to draw comfort from his service to the nation. He also asked God to grant the bereaved family and the FRSC community the strength to bear the loss.
The Correspondents’ Chapel also expressed grief over the death in a condolence letter signed by its Chairman, Yetunde Fatungase, and Secretary, Hakeem Adegbenro. The association, which represents correspondents of national newspapers in Ogun State, highlighted the late commander’s leadership and professional relationship with journalists.
“As members of the press who worked closely with Commander Ogunjobi, we can attest to his exceptional leadership, dedication to duty, and commitment to the mandate of the Federal Road Safety Corps. His efforts in enhancing public enlightenment, fostering robust media and stakeholder engagement, and ensuring safer roads across Ogun State were truly commendable,” the chapel said.
The journalists further described Ogunjobi as an accessible and media-friendly administrator who understood the role of collaboration between the FRSC and the press in promoting highway safety and preventing road crashes.
“Commander Ogunjobi was not only a dedicated public officer but also an open, media-friendly administrator who recognised the crucial partnership between the FRSC and the press in saving lives on our highways. Only recently, the late Commander acknowledged the chapel’s courtesy visit letter. His professional approach, warmth, and accessibility will be greatly missed by the journalism community in Ogun State,” the statement added.
The chapel extended its condolences to the leadership and personnel of the FRSC RS2.2 Ogun State Sector Command, the national leadership of the corps and Ogunjobi’s immediate family, friends and loved ones, while praying for the peaceful repose of his soul.
