Okowa Floors Ned Nwoko in Delta North APC Senatorial Primary

Former Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress senatorial primary for Delta North.

He defeated  incumbent lawmaker, Senator Ned Nwoko, by a wide margin in the direct primary election.

The outcome of the contest showed Okowa securing 113,309 votes, while Nwoko polled 2,612 votes. Another aspirant, Maryam Alli, received 40 votes.

The primary election results also reflected Okowa’s dominance at the ward level, particularly in Ute-Okpu Ward 9 in Ika North East Local Government Area, where the former governor polled 6,922 votes against Nwoko’s three votes.

The exercise at the ward was monitored by a representative of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mrs. Kristana Mungi.

The development marks a major political comeback for the former governor, who defected to the APC less than a year ago alongside Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the wider Peoples Democratic Party structure in Delta State.

Okowa’s victory is also expected to reshape the political landscape in Delta North ahead of the 2027 general elections, especially following his decisive outing against the sitting senator.
