Osun State Governor and Accord Party candidate, Ademola Adeleke, has taken an early lead in the ongoing collation of results from Saturday’s governorship election in the state.
Data from the Nigeria Elections Intelligence System indicated that results from 303 of the state’s 332 wards had been collated as of the time of filing this report.
The figures showed Adeleke polling 177,572 votes, representing 50.5 per cent of the votes counted so far.
His closest rival, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, garnered 158,588 votes, accounting for 45.1 per cent.
The candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Najeem Salaam, was in third place with 5,917 votes.
Collation was still ongoing across the state’s 30 local government areas.
Election statistics released during the collation process showed that out of 845,100 registered voters, 361,500 were accredited, representing a voter turnout of 42.8 per cent.
A total of 351,500 valid votes had been recorded, while 7,200 ballots were rejected.
The Independent National Electoral Commission said results had been received from 43.41 per cent of polling units as the collation process progressed.
Adeleke is seeking re-election on the platform of the Accord Party, while Oyebamiji is contesting on the platform of the APC.
The final outcome of the election is expected to be announced by INEC’s Returning Officer after the completion of collation from all outstanding wards.
