Police Nab 23 Foreign Nationals Over Alleged Ponzi and Visa Fraud in Ogun

Fidelia Soriwei, Abuja

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested 23 foreign nationals following a raid on a residential building in Ota linked to an alleged Ponzi scheme, visa scam and other immigration-related offences.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday in Abeokuta.

According to Babaseyi, operatives of the Atan-Ota Division carried out the operation on August 4 at about 11 a.m. after receiving intelligence reports about suspected fraudulent activities at the location.

He said officers swiftly moved to the premises, secured the area and apprehended the suspects for further investigation.

“23 foreign nationals were arrested in connection with alleged Ponzi scheme, visa scam and others immigration-related offences.

“After preliminary investigation, 21 of the suspects were formally handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service on August 5, for further immigration-related investigation and appropriate action,” he said.

The police spokesperson explained that two of the suspects remained in police custody and would face prosecution over allegations of Obtaining by False Pretence and related offences, pending the outcome of investigations.

He added that investigators are working to determine the full extent of the alleged fraud and identify any additional individuals connected to the operation.

The police said the investigation remains ongoing.
