The Nigeria Police Force has ordered the dismissal and prosecution of officers involved in the cruel execution of a restrained civilian in Effurun, Delta State.
The victim, identified as Mena Ogidi, was reportedly shot on April 26, 2026, in an incident that has sparked public concern over police conduct.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Okon Placid, said the disciplinary process had been concluded following directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
According to the police, all officers linked to the incident were immediately withdrawn from Delta State Command and redeployed to Abuja, where they underwent expedited disciplinary proceedings.
Findings by the Force Disciplinary Committee established that the principal officer, ASP Nuhu Usman, acted in violation of Force Order 237 and other regulations governing the use of firearms.
The committee described his actions as unlawful and unprofessional, recommending his dismissal along with other officers found culpable.
The Inspector-General has approved the recommendations and forwarded them to the Police Service Commission for ratification.
The police said that upon completion of administrative procedures, the affected officers would be handed over to appropriate judicial authorities for prosecution.
Reaffirming the force’s position, the IGP stressed that there is zero tolerance for extrajudicial actions and abuse of power, warning that any officer found culpable would face the full weight of the law.
He also extended condolences to the family of the deceased, assuring them that justice would be served.
The police urged members of the public to remain calm, pledging continued commitment to professionalism, accountability, and the protection of citizens’ rights.
